The investigation into the shooting of the "Heavenly Hundred" is over: the materials have been submitted to the court

The State Bureau of Investigation has submitted to the court the case of the shooting of the "Heavenly Hundred" that took place during the Euromaidan protests in February 2014. The case involves high-ranking officials and leaders of the country at the time, including President Viktor Yanukovych and Minister of Internal Affairs Vitaliy Zakharchenko.


The list of accused includes:

  • President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych;
  • Minister of Internal Affairs Vitaliy Zakharchenko;
  • Zakharchenko's deputy;
  • Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Oleksandr Yakymenko;
  • First Deputy Head of the SBU and Head of the Anti-Terrorist Center;
  • Minister of Defense Pavlo Lebedev;
  • Head of the Main Directorate - Commander of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Stanislav Shulyak;
  • acting head of the Kyiv department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs;
  • Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine - Head of the Public Security Police;
  • the commander of "Berkut".

 

The investigation established that these individuals gave orders and made decisions on the use of force by law enforcement agencies against protesters "without appropriate grounds and in violation of the current legislation".


In addition, two of the accused, Pavlo Lebedev and Stanislav Shulyak, acted in the interests of Russia, as they are citizens of the Russian Federation and have served in its armed forces.


All the involved in this case could be sentenced to life imprisonment.


The investigation was conducted in absentia, as the suspects left Ukraine. The case contains 1878 volumes of materials and includes 1019 different episodes.
