Pentagon continued to buy Russian oil despite sanctions: WP expose

Russian oil was transported via Turkey to a Greek refinery. From there, the oil was sold to the Pentagon, despite international sanctions. This was reported by The Washington Post.

"Oil products originating from Russia continued to flow to the Motor Oil Hellas refinery on the Aegean coast of Greece," the article says.

It is noted that the supply route ran through an oil storage facility in Turkey, which made it possible to hide the oil's ownership of the Russian Federation. In fact, ownership of the product changed hands several times before it reached Greece.

The exact amount of fuel oil of Russian origin in the products purchased by the Pentagon could not be determined. These products are refined using many ingredients that cannot be traced back to the production process.

It was also not possible to determine whether the fuel oil from Russia was at any point in its journey relabeled as having come from another country. Documents describing the origin of a shipment of oil, known as certificates of origin, are not publicly available.
