Two European Commissioners have told MEPs that the EU executive is still not ready to unlock billions of euros for Hungary's recovery. This is reported by Euractiv.
It is noted that Hungary expects to receive funds from the EU Recovery and Resilience Fund of 700 million euros, created after the COVID pandemic, and the European Commission says that the funds will not be allocated until the government of Viktor Orban resolves long-standing legal issues of bias and the rule of law.
European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders welcomed the new law adopted by Budapest to address EU concerns about the independence of the judiciary, but he noted that this is not the end of the process and Hungary must complete the accompanying implementation steps.
