Council of Europe and UN join forces to call on Russia to comply with ECHR decision

Despite the exclusion of Russia from the Council of Europe in 2022, the organization, together with the UN, is trying to remind Russia of its legal obligations to comply with the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights. This is reported in a press release from the Council of Europe.

The UN Special Rapporteur will visit Strasbourg to discuss this topic with the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

In its latest resolution, the Committee called on Russia to comply with the ECHR judgment in the case of Georgia v. Russia and expressed deep concern about the failure to make payments of more than €133 million.

The Committee also drew attention to other cases, including those related the death of Sergei Magnitsky and the investigations into the affairs of Alexei Navalny.
