Russian troops are making a "powerful breakthrough" in the direction of the city of Chasiv Yar in Donetsk region. This may open a foothold for them to attack Kostyantynivka. This was stated by Illia Yevlash, spokesman for the Eastern Military Group, on Radio Liberty.
"They are accumulating very powerful forces, and at the moment it can be considered one of their most powerful breakthroughs to Chasiv Yar... Access to Chasiv Yar will open the way for the enemy to continue their offensive, a springboard for an attack on Kostyantynivka," he said.
The speaker added that the main goal of the enemy in Donetsk region is the Kramatorsk-Sloviansk agglomeration. According to him, the Russians are trying to take advantage of the moment and have been using the "run where it pours" tactic for a long time, i.e. looking for weaknesses in the defense of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Yevlash emphasized that several defense circles have been erected near the city of Chasiv Yar, there are minefields, both anti-tank and anti-personnel, as well as embankments and anti-tank ramparts.
"We have been preparing for the defense of Chasiv Yar for a long time, even when the enemy managed to capture Bakhmut. Of course, it was clear that we needed to equip additional defense lines, more favorable ones. Since the next largest settlement in this direction was Chasiv Yar," the speaker added.
