Ukraine is preparing a draft law on combating disinformation in social networks

Ukraine is preparing a draft law on combating disinformation and propaganda on social media such as Telegram, TikTok, and YouTube. Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the NSDC, told Forbes.

Work on the draft law has been going on since the end of March, and the National Security and Defense Council, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the Verkhovna Rada are developing it. Under this law, the Ukrainian authorities will be able to demand social networks to block certain channels.

"For YouTube or TikTok, this will be an argument why such resources as Diana Panchenko's channel, which has already been blocked, should be blocked in Ukraine," Kovalenko said.

As of April 19, about 200 YouTube channels and 24 TikTok accounts have been blocked. In addition, the European Digital Service Act is planned to be adopted, which sets a number of requirements for social networks, including content moderation, transparency and representation.
