European and U.S. leaders support the restart of the Normandy format

The leaders of the United States, Germany, France, Italy and Britain in a telephone conversation expressed support for Russia's activation of talks in the Normandy format to resolve the Ukrainian crisis, the Elysee Palace said, Interfax-Ukraine reported.

"The leaders recalled that Russia should resume talks with Ukraine within the Normandy format under the auspices of France and Germany," the communiqué said.

It points out that the participants of the conversation exchanged assessments "of the situation that has created tensions between Russia and Ukraine, and expressed their determination to ensure that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Ukrainian state is respected."

The conversation between US President Joe Biden and his European allies took place ahead of the US leader's videoconference talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
