Saakashvili announced the cessation of treatment in protest

Imprisoned former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has announced that he is ceasing all treatment at a military hospital in Gori, where he was previously transferred from the prison hospital, as a sign of protest. Saakashvili wrote about it on Facebook.

"This morning the conclusion of the state inspector was published, which fined the Ministry of Justice for a gross violation of the rights of the president. About 6 hours after this statement, two employees of the 18th prison entered my room without warning, in whom I recognized the participants of my torture," Saakashvili said in a letter.

The report indicated that Saakashvili decided to apply disciplinary measures in the form of limiting meetings and deprivation of TV. The former Georgian president explained that this was done because he hit the blood pressure machine in self-defense when the medical staff was allegedly going to perform "medical manipulations" against his will.

In the letter, Saakashvili notes that his mother, who he claims had permission to enter and see him, was then made to wait outside for nearly four hours and brought back to Tbilisi.

"They also wouldn't let my personal physician see me for about an hour until the hospital administration intervened," he claims.

According to Saakashvili, the authorities were responding in this way to the conclusion of Georgia's state inspector's office, which reported Tuesday that the Justice Department and the special prison service had been fined for violating his rights.

"Therefore, I am stopping all medical treatment and will not stop this protest until the Ministry of Justice and the special penitentiary service implement the decision of the State Inspector Service, until they cancel the so-called disciplinary measures and restore the normal admission of those visiting me," Saakashvili said in a letter.
