Volodymyr Zelensky had a telephone conversation with the President of the European Council

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has held a telephone conversation with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, according to the official website of the Ukrainian President.

The conversation focused on the coordination of international political and diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the security situation around our state.

Volodymyr Zelensky noted that for Ukraine it is important to preserve unity of all EU member states regarding protection of sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state. Ukraine will not give in to provocations, together with its partners will remain calm and composed.

"Thank you, Mr. President of the European Council, and the leaders of the EU countries, whose diplomats remain in our state and support us by doing their work," he stressed.

The interlocutors also discussed the European Union's preparation, already at this stage, of a broad package of preventive economic, political, and security sanctions that could curb potential further escalation.

The President of Ukraine stressed the need to ensure stable development of the national economy in the current security situation. In this regard, he thanked the European Union for the timely decision to allocate macrofinancial assistance of 1.2 billion euros, which was taken, in particular, as a result of his recent conversation with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

The leaders coordinated positions on further dialogue between Ukraine and the European Union in 2022. The date for the next, 24th Ukraine-EU summit will be determined soon. Already in the middle of this year, with the participation of the European Commission leadership, international partners, as well as European and international business, Kyiv will host an energy business forum to jointly discuss risks to energy security throughout Europe.
