Russia threatens to withdraw nuclear weapons to the Baltic due to NATO expansion

In case Sweden and Finland join NATO, the Russian side may pull nuclear weapons to the Baltic. In particular, ships with the corresponding missiles.

Dmitry Medvedev, deputy head of the Russian Security Council, said this in his Telegram.

According to him, the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO means that Russia will have more officially registered opponents.

"If Sweden and Finland join NATO, the length of the alliance's land borders with Russia will more than double. Naturally, these borders will have to be strengthened. The grouping of ground forces and the Air Defense Forces will have to be seriously strengthened and considerable naval forces deployed in the waters of the Gulf of Finland. In this case we cannot speak about any non-nuclear status of the Baltic states - the balance must be restored.

It was earlier reported that Sweden will apply for NATO membership until the end of June at a summit to be held in Madrid.

It was also reported that Finland would decide on the issue of joining the alliance in the coming weeks.
