Sweden and Finland will apply to join NATO tomorrow

Sweden and Finland will simultaneously apply to join NATO. The governments intend to do so tomorrow, May 18. This was announced by Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson.

 

"The best thing for the security of Sweden and the security of the Swedish people is that we join NATO and that we do it together with Finland," she said during a press conference with Finnish President Sauli Niiniste.

 

The Swedish prime minister specified that Sweden and Finland will submit their applications to NATO tomorrow, May 18. Andersen added that Stockholm and Helsinki have received security guarantees from a number of countries for the period of membership in the Alliance, and this will carry enormous political weight.
