Foreign Ministry reacts to the willingness of Pope Francis to visit Ukraine and Russia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs believes that the visit of Pope Francis to Ukraine will contribute to the restoration of peace on Ukrainian soil and confirms the pontiff's invitation to visit Ukraine. This was stated by the speaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Nikolenko.

He noted that the Ukrainian side has repeatedly invited the Pope to visit Ukraine.

"We believe that this visit will strengthen the pontiff's role in the restoration of peace on Ukrainian soil, as well as support the spirit of Ukrainians who are experiencing untold suffering because of Russia's aggression," Nikolenko said.

The speaker called it indicative that Moscow is completely ignoring the Holy Father's willingness to visit Russia.

"This is further evidence that the Russian regime seeks war rather than peace. It is time to deepen ties with those who sincerely want it," Nikolenko said.

"We reiterate the invitation to Pope Francis to visit our state and call for continued prayers for the Ukrainian people. Good will surely triumph over Russian evil," he added.
