Russia should not be allowed to use G20 summit as a rostrum - German Foreign Minister

Berbock stated that Russia's attack on Ukraine will be one of the main topics of the upcoming G20 summit.

Russia must not be allowed to use the G20 meeting for its own purposes. German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock said this on July 6 on the eve of the meeting of the G20 foreign ministers, according to the website of the German Foreign Ministry.

Berbock said that the countries participating in the summit are interested in ensuring that international law is respected and upheld.

"And this is also the reason why we should not allow Russia to use the meeting [of the G20 in Indonesia] as a podium," the minister stressed.

She said the G20 will focus on "how we deal with Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and its consequences for the world."

"The horror of war has engulfed the Ukrainian land, but in a globalized world its consequences go far beyond that. Russia not only kills with bombs, but also deliberately uses addiction and starvation as weapons. The people of Mali and Nigeria have felt it, as have Lebanon, Argentina and India," said Berbock.

Note that the G20 summit will be held on November 15-16 in Bali.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been invited to the event. He accepted the invitation in May and said: "I believe that at this summit there will be only states-friends, states-partners and there will not be any occupiers."

On June 27, it became known that Russian President Vladimir Putin also agreed to participate in the summit. After that, Zelensky said that he would take part in the meeting only if Russian representatives did not participate in it.
