The U.S. will strip Afghanistan of its status as a major non-NATO ally

United States President Joe Biden announced his decision to strip Afghanistan of its status as a major U.S. ally outside NATO.

This is stated in a statement on the White House website.

"I am giving notice of my intention to revoke Afghanistan's status as a major non-NATO ally," Biden said in a letter to U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

The U.S. included Afghanistan as a major non-NATO ally in 2012.

As you know, the U.S. completed its withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021, and the Taliban came to power in the country.
