U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken intends to speak with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov for the first time since the war in Ukraine began more than five months ago. This is reported by CNN.
U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said Wednesday that he expects to call with his Russian counterpart this week to discuss a "substantial proposal" submitted to Moscow "weeks ago" to try to secure the release of two illegally detained Americans, Paul Whelan and Brittney Griner.
He also plans to discuss a recently signed agreement on the transit of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea.
Speaking at a press conference at the State Department, Blinken said he would not negotiate on Ukraine during his phone call with Lavrov, reiterating that there could be no talk about Ukraine without Ukraine.
