The Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry reports that the Russian Federation did not intend to exchange prisoners of war of the Ukrainian military who were defending the Azovstal metallurgical plant in Mariupol, so it deliberately committed the murder of prisoners of war in the temporarily occupied Olenivka.
According to the press service of the GUR of the Defense Ministry on Wednesday, at the moment some of the circumstances of the incident in the colony in Olenivka, where there were Ukrainian prisoners of war, including those from the Azov regiment, have already been established.
"Interrogations of prisoners were carried out by the investigators of the so-called "MGB of the DNR" together with representatives of the "Wagner" PMC and the Russian Federal Security Service. During interrogations, physical torture and beatings were actively used," the report says.
It specifies that such activities, first of all, were "not aimed at obtaining certain confidential information, but at bullying, physical humiliation, psychological demoralization in order to break the moral and psychological qualities of the Ukrainian soldiers.
"In case the mentioned plan was implemented, the FSB representatives planned to involve Ukrainian captives in filming pro-Russian reports. The purpose of the broadcast was to cover the captives' confession of "the crimes they commit, atrocities against the local population, the renunciation of the fighters from their views, as well as condemning the actions of the leadership of Ukraine," the GUR stresses.
The agency specifies that interrogations were conducted in a conveyor belt on a regular basis, but were not successful. "Ukrainian prisoners showed exceptional courage and unbreakable willpower," the Ukrainian spies note.
They add that the Russian side had "no intention of exchanging prisoners of war and in order to conceal the improper conditions of detention and forms of interrogation of Ukrainian servicemen (which could serve as evidence in the Hague court) deliberately destroyed prisoners."
"According to available information, the bombing of the place of detention of Ukrainian fighters was carried out by fighters of the Wagner PMC using a flammable substance, which led to the rapid spread of fire in the premises," the SMM summarized.
