The amount of direct damage to Ukraine's infrastructure caused by the war exceeded 110 billion dollars

The total amount of direct documented infrastructure damage caused by the war is $110.4 billion, the minimum need to rebuild destroyed assets has risen to $188 billion. This is according to data provided by the KSE Institute.

The amount of direct documented infrastructure damage increased by $2.1 billion over the past week.

According to the latest figures provided by the Ministry of Infrastructure, the fighting has damaged or destroyed 304 bridges and bridge crossings worth $1.8 billion.

Work is under way to restore Ukraine's road infrastructure. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, to date, 49 artificial structures on state highways have already been restored, of which the greatest number of objects has been restored in Kyiv region (20) and Chernihiv region (17).

Also, this week, the damage to the sectors of culture, tourism, and sports amounted to 1.3 billion dollars. The increase of this sum by 400 million dollars is connected with the growth of the number of damaged and destroyed objects and with the receipt of updated data from the Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories.

Since the beginning of the war against Ukraine at least 15.3 thousand apartment buildings, 115.9 thousand private houses, 388 enterprises, 43.7 thousand agricultural machinery units, 1,991 stores, 511 administrative buildings, 106.1 thousand cars, 764 kindergartens, 934 medical institutions, 634 cultural buildings and 119 social facilities have been damaged, destroyed or seized.

As of August 8, the amount of indirect industry losses increased to $129.1 billion. Compared to the last calculations, indirect losses increased by $300 million. The largest share of indirect losses as a result of the full-scale war, which Russia started, was in industry and Ukrainian enterprises – $29.8 billion. The second-largest indirect loss is in the agro-industrial complex and land resources, at $23.4 billion. Another $18.2 billion. - indirect losses in infrastructure.

Experts at the “Russia Pay” Project estimate that the minimum need to rebuild destroyed assets has increased by $3 billion in the past week and now stands at $188 billion. The growth of the amount of needs is connected with the increase of the number of destroyed and damaged infrastructure and the spheres of culture, tourism and sport, which need to be rebuilt. Thus, to restore the destroyed and damaged infrastructure, today we require at least $44.6 billion. And the need to rebuild cultural, tourism and sports facilities has grown by $700 million to $2.3 billion.

The total amount of reconstruction needs takes into account only reconstruction of destroyed facilities on the Build Back Better principle, taking into account modernization, additional need for liquidity to resume the activities of enterprises. At the same time, this estimate does not take into account the total reconstruction needs and the additional modernization needs for assets that have not suffered damage or destruction. Including these categories, the government estimates that the total need for funding for economic recovery and modernization, according to data provided by the KSE, is $750 billion.

This estimate is the result of joint work of the KSE Institute, government agencies under the leadership of the Ministry of Reintegration and the Ministry of Regional Development in cooperation with other ministries and partner organizations within the framework of the National Council for Rebuilding Ukraine from the Consequences of War.
