UN Secretary General urged to demilitarize the perimeter around the Zaporizhzhia NPP

UN Secretary General António Guterres called for the cessation of hostilities near the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. He also asked to demilitarize the perimeter around the plant.

He noted that shelling and other provocations at Europe's largest nuclear power plant could lead to disaster. Guterres added that the nuclear power plant cannot be used as a military base.

"There is an urgent need for a technical agreement on a safe demilitarization perimeter to secure the area," the secretary general stressed.

The UN chief asks for access to the plant for IAEA experts.

"I call on the parties to give the IAEA mission immediate, safe and unhindered access to the site," Guterres added.
