Nearly 20 Georgian civil society organizations call for the introduction of a visa regime with the Russian Federation

Nearly two dozen influential Georgian organizations have requested a visa regime for citizens of Russia. This was reported by Novini-Gruzia.

"We believe that control over the entry of Russian citizens and companies to Georgia is a matter of national security of the country... We demand the establishment of a visa regime for Russian citizens and a review of the legal status of those who have already entered the territory of the country," the signatories said.

They pay attention that from February 2022 in Georgia were registered close to 6400 Russian companies, seven times more than in 2021. In their opinion, the Russians can easily use Georgia to circumvent the sanctions of the West.

"The occupation, which continues, the ethnic cleansing committed by the Russian Federation in Georgia, the atrocities against humanity, Conflict (according to the quote in the first sentence) in Ukraine and the Russian approach is often used - intervention in a foreign country for the "protection" of its own people - all this creates sufficient grounds for the establishment of the visa regime," they argue in the statement.

The signatories point out that the limitation of the rights of citizens of a hostile country or an occupying country is common practice and does not contradict international standards in the field of human rights, but obtaining a residence permit for Russians will still be possible and these situations are considered on an individual basis.

The statement also expresses full support for the Ukrainians in their fight for the will.
