Georgia experienced a violent change of borders and will never recognize this in Ukraine - MFA

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia strongly condemned the so-called referendums held by the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine and the illegal annexation of these territories.

Tbilisi considers the actions of the Russian Federation a clear act of violent change of the internationally recognized borders of Ukraine.

"This yet another illegal action by the Russian Federation once again grossly violated the basic principles of international law protecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all states.

Georgia, which has already gone through the experience of violent changes to internationally recognized borders, will never recognize the so-called illegal referendums held in the regions of Ukraine, and confirms its firm and unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders," the statement reads.

It should be noted that the President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, on Friday condemned Russia's actions regarding the annexation of four regions of Ukraine, as well as the Kremlin's intentions to mobilize on the temporarily occupied Ukrainian and Georgian territories.
