The United States said at a meeting of the UN Security Council that it has no doubts about the origin of kamikaze drones, which Russia has recently been using massively against Ukraine, and is preparing sanctions against Iran.
This is stated in the statement of the State Department.
The issue of Iranian drones in Ukraine was jointly raised by the United States, Great Britain and France.
"We have expressed deep concern about Russia's acquisition of these drones from Iran, in defiance of UN Security Council Resolution 2231. The US began warning back in July of Iran's plans to provide UAVs to Russia for use in its barbaric war against Ukraine, and we now have ample evidence that that the Ukrainian civilian population and infrastructure are being hit by these drones," the State Department notes.
"As long as Iran continues to lie and deny providing weapons to Russia for use in Ukraine, we will work with allies and partners to prevent the transfer of dangerous weapons to Russia. We will not hesitate to use sanctions and other appropriate tools against all those involved in this process," it said. in the communiqué.
The State Department adds that Washington will continue to provide Ukraine with large-scale military assistance, including air defense equipment, so that it can defend itself against this new threat.
As you know, the Russian Federation has recently been massively using kamikaze drones for attacks on Ukraine, which experts identify as Iranian Shahed-136, and Russian forces use them under the name Geran. Tehran has repeatedly denied the transfer of drones to Russia. The White House considers Iran's denial to be untrue.
