"Notable steps forward": the head of the European Commission met with Zelenskyi and assessed Ukraine's progress on the way to the EU

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, met in Kyiv with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, as a result, she promised economic support and positively assessed Ukraine's steps on the way to the EU.

"Dear Volodymyr Zelenskyі, while Ukrainians are fighting for our common values, we support your economic security. To date, our support for the EU amounts to 50 billion euros. We are in this for the long term," wrote Ursula von der Leyen.

She added: "Your determination to move forward on your European journey is remarkable. You are making significant steps forward in implementing our recommendations, while at the same time fighting the invasion. We will continue to support your efforts to make further progress."

At the beginning of January, Ukraine and the EU announced that on February 3, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi will meet with the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the head of the European Council, Charles Michel.

More than a dozen European commissioners wanted to hold talks with government representatives in Kyiv just before the Ukraine-EU summit in February.

The issue of financial and military support to Ukraine will be resolved at the highest level. At the summit, Ukraine hopes to achieve a "significant leap forward", especially in specific sectors - an agreement on "industrial visa-free"; suspension of customs duties on Ukrainian exports for another year; and "active progress" in joining the SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area) payment scheme and Ukraine's inclusion in the EU mobile roaming zone. And also regarding the promotion of Ukraine on the way to EU membership.
