The USA recorded a spy balloon over its territory, probably from China

The Pentagon reported that the movement of a balloon with tracking equipment was detected over the territory of the United States - "launched, most likely, by the People's Republic of China."

The Pentagon announced this on the evening of February 2.

"U.S. authorities have located and are tracking a high-altitude surveillance balloon currently moving over the United States. Appropriate authorities, including NORAD, continue to closely monitor it," Pentagon spokesman Pat Ryder said, adding that immediate action was taken to preventing the collection of classified information - without specifying what exactly.

He noted that the bullet travels at a much higher altitude than air corridors for transport and civil aviation, so it does not pose a threat to aircraft.

According to him, this is not the first time that the USA has recorded such an object - similar devices were noticed even during the presidency of Donald Trump. However, this time the balloon stays over the territory of the country longer.

The Pentagon also said that intelligence is largely certain that the device was launched by China, and the US immediately contacted Beijing through various channels.

"We have communicated how seriously we take this issue and made it clear that we will do everything necessary to protect our people and our country," said the official, who also spoke at the briefing with Ryder.

The power agencies agreed that it is better not to touch the layer and let it move along the given course without trying to knock it down; President Joe Biden, after reviewing the situation, agreed with this decision.
