Law enforcement officers detained a man accused of taking hostages at a bank branch in Zugdida in 2020.

 The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that a man named Badri Esebua - a former military man - was detained in the west of the country, his firearms and ammunition were seized and he was placed in the pre-trial detention center in Kutaisi. The first court hearing in his case will be held on February 20.

 We will remind, it is about the robbery of the "Bank of Georgia" branch on October 21, 2021. Armed with a grenade and a machine gun, the robber took about 40 people hostage and demanded $500,000.

 After a long police operation, the hostages were released unharmed, the attacker took the money and managed to escape. His act was classified as a terrorist attack. Later, law enforcement officers found out the identity of the attacker and searched his younger brother as well.
