Romania and Poland will ask the EU for help in tracking grain exports from Ukraine

Romania and Poland will ask the European Commission to develop mechanisms that will help establish tracking of grain exports from Ukraine and avoid price dumping to the detriment of local farmers.

This was stated by the Prime Minister of Romania, Nicolae Cuke, on Tuesday at a joint press conference with the Prime Minister of Poland, Mateusz Morawiecki, in Bucharest, according to the Romanian publication Agerpress.

According to the Romanian Prime Minister, he discussed with his Polish counterpart "aspects" related to how the export of grain and other products from Ukraine affected Romanian, Polish and other producers of countries bordering Ukraine.

"And we are working together on the approaches that need to be discussed with the European Commission and what the mechanisms should be to instrument the tracking of exports from Ukraine and, of course, the final destination, in order to avoid this speculation and that dumping prices have affected farmers, agricultural producers in our country," Chuke said.

Moravetskyi said that they are "fighting together so that this grain leaves our countries, so that the European Union effectively helps us in implementing a trade policy that meets the best strategic interests of Ukraine and Central Europe, as well as the economic interests of Poland and Romania."

Last year, Poland and Romania jointly promoted grain exports to Ukraine. The additional supply of grain in their markets has put pressure on farmers as it has affected prices and grain storage capacity. Local protests against the governments took place in two states.
