Grossi announced that the ZNPP was "impossible to protect" from the Russian invaders

The IAEA admitted that they cannot guarantee the safety of nuclear power plants.

UN nuclear chief Raphael Grossi visited Ukraine's Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant on Wednesday and said that the number of troops in the area of the nuclear power plant has "significantly increased" and it is "impossible to protect it" anymore.

This is reported by Sky News.

The other day, Grossi's second visit to Zaporizhzhya took place after February 2022. It is reported that the purpose was to "assess the seriousness of the nuclear safety and security situation at the facility."

In the end, Grossi described the situation as "still volatile."

"It is obvious that military activity is increasing throughout this region. Therefore, it is impossible to protect the plant," he said.

Since the beginning of February, the Russian occupiers have been adjusting the supply of electricity from the occupied Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) to Russia. At the same time, personnel from the Kalinin NPP, located in the Russian Federation, were brought to the ZNPP. Ukrainian specialists refused to train them.

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) believes that Russia may try to deter a future counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine by staging provocations at the Zaporizhzhya NPP. At the same time, the occupiers are calculating probable escape scenarios and marking equipment that can be stolen from the station. And they even started taking him out of the training center.

At the end of March, Grossi warned that the last backup line of 330 kilovolts at the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) had been damaged and had remained offline since March 1. That is why nuclear safety at the ZNPP remains in a critical state.

The International Atomic Energy Agency also abandoned the idea of creating a demilitarized zone around the Zaporizhzhya NPP captured by the Russian occupiers.
