Garibashvili: "We are leading the country to unification with a peaceful policy"

Georgia is strengthening peace and leading the country to unification, Georgian Prime Minister Iraklii Garibashvili told reporters in Chisinau. He takes part in the summit of the European Political Community.

"I have repeatedly said that today, unfortunately, our country is partially temporarily occupied. The occupation of our territories is one of the main challenges. Unfortunately, we are not a member country of either the European Union or NATO. Of course, we do not have a "security umbrella" and guarantees. So it is of course especially important to us that our government takes the right steps to first and foremost protect our country in this highly unpredictable environment, to save our country. We have to take care of the safety of our population, our people. Our policy is a peaceful policy, we have preserved the world, strengthened it and are leading our country to unification with a peaceful policy," said the Prime Minister of Georgia.

The European Political Community is a new intergovernmental organization created at the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron after the large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. All European countries, except Russia and Belarus, participate in its work. The organization's second summit in history is taking place in Moldova.

Issues related to the war in Ukraine are the main ones on the agenda. It is also expected that negotiations between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan with the participation of European representatives regarding a peaceful settlement will take place within the framework of the summit.

Increased security measures have been taken in the capital of Moldova in connection with the summit, Chisinau airport has been closed for two days for normal flights.
