Elon Musk explained refusal to turn on Starlink in Crimea by US sanctions

SpaceX owner Elon Musk said he decided not to turn on Starlink satellite communications in Crimea at Ukraine's request because of US sanctions against Russia. He made this statement during the All-In Summit technology conference.

According to Musk, in order to activate Starlink satellite communications in Crimea, he needs to get permission from the US government.

Musk explained: "The reason why Starlink was turned off was actually initially because the US imposed sanctions on Russia. The sanctions include Crimea, and we're not allowed to launch the connection."

He emphasized that if he had a direct order from US President Joe Biden to activate the system, he would have done so.

"But there was no such order," Musk said.

As we reported earlier, Senator Elizabeth Warren is demanding an investigation into SpaceX after Elon Musk admitted that he blocked Ukraine from expanding its private Starlink satellite network to attack Russian warships off the coast of Crimea.
