Swiss Parliament approved transfer of 25 Leopard 2 tanks to Germany

The Swiss parliament has approved the transfer of 25 Leopard 2 tanks from its own army reserves to Germany, but on the condition that these tanks will not be transferred to Ukraine. This was reported by the Neue Zuericher Zeitung.

The lower house of the Swiss parliament has agreed that 25 decommissioned Leopard 2 tanks can be sold to the German company Rheinmetall from Swiss army warehouses.

The condition for the transfer is that these battle tanks will not be transferred to Ukraine.

After the tanks are handed over to Kyiv, Germany and other NATO members plan to replenish their own stockpiles.

This summer, Switzerland retired a total of 96 Leopard 2 main battle tanks out of 134 available.

The country's Defense Minister Viola Amherd said during the debate: "From the point of view of the neutrality law, it is possible, and from the point of view of the neutrality policy, ... it is in Switzerland's interest... In this way, you can contribute to the security of Europe and therefore to Switzerland."
