Is impeachment possible: Georgia's Constitutional Court considers president's case on foreign visits

Georgia's Constitutional Court has begun considering whether President Salome Zurabishvili violated the constitution by going on foreign visits without the government's consent, Novosti-Georgia reports.

The session of the Constitutional Court started at 12 o'clock, but Zurabishvili did not attend in person, instead, two representatives attended the court session.

The subject of the hearing covers "possible violation of subparagraph "a" of paragraph 1 of Article 52 of the Constitution of Georgia in connection with the exercise of representative powers in foreign relations by the President of Georgia without the consent of the Government of Georgia, which was expressed in making working visits abroad and holding working meetings and negotiations with officials," the court said in an official statement.

This procedure was initiated by the ruling "Georgian Dream" party. If the Constitutional Court decides that Zurabishvili's actions violate the constitution, the party is going to initiate impeachment proceedings in parliament.
