The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize to Iranian human rights activist Narges Mohammadi. This is stated on the page of the Nobel Committee in X.

The report says that she was awarded the prize for her struggle against the oppression of women in Iran and for the promotion of human rights.

The Nobel Prize website says that Mohammadi is currently in prison.

"Narges Mohammadi is a woman, human rights activist and freedom fighter. Her courageous struggle for freedom of expression and the right to independence has cost her enormous personal sacrifice. In total, the Iranian regime arrested her 13 times, convicted her five times, and sentenced her to a total of 31 years in prison and 154 lashes," the statement said.
