Biden decided to transfer ATACMS to Ukraine after the summer offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces did not give the desired result, Politico writes, citing sources.

The publication recalls that Ukraine had been asking for this weapon for months, but the US president did not give it, fearing escalation. Now his position has changed.

The decision was also made "in light of the administration's growing concern about Russia's buildup of troops and equipment for an autumn offensive that could be Russia's largest maneuver in months."

According to the publication, new attacks are expected in the coming weeks on various parts of the front line, "so it is imperative that Ukraine has longer-range ATACMS systems to hit airfields and ammunition depots to negate any logistical advantages Russia may have."
