The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine: three challenges that require a UN response

The current challenges that require a prompt response from the UN system are the supply of Iranian drones to Russia in violation of UN Security Council resolutions, the occupation of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, and the continued shelling of Ukrainian civilians. This is stated in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of UN Day.

In a statement issued on the occasion of the UN Day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that Ukraine appreciates the UN's efforts in humanitarian work and assistance, especially with the participation of UN teams working in Ukraine, in connection with the consequences of Russia's full-scale invasion.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry emphasizes that the key goal is not only to restore the ability of the UN, in particular the Security Council, to take adequate decisions in response to threats to peace and order, but also to ensure their effective implementation to quickly stop these threats.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine emphasizes the need to reform the veto procedure, which should not be used to spread hatred and war.

The proposed role of the UN General Assembly in overcoming the veto, and Russia's compliance with the criteria of a "peace-loving state" for its membership in the Security Council are considered integral elements of the UN reform.

Ukraine remains committed to cooperation within the UN framework and believes that adherence to the principles of sovereign equality of states and international law will help to solve global problems of humanity.
