EU will present new anti-Russian sanctions next week - Borrell

The European Union is planning to present a new package of anti-Russian sanctions next week, which will include a ban on diamond supplies from Russia, EU diplomat Josep Borrell said. This was reported by the Financial Times.

"In order for member states to unanimously support a ban on the diamond trade, some asked that the G7 provide, let's say, political coverage of the issue," Borrell said.

"This has been done, the coordination has worked, and we will be able to present the sanctions package to the foreign ministers on Monday (November 13)," he added.

Thus, he commented on the G7's statement on the intention to reduce Russia's revenues from the export of energy resources, metals and diamonds that are not used for industrial purposes.

The publication notes that diamonds are one of the main export goods that are not yet subject to EU sanctions.
