Chinese leader Xi Jinping has assured US President Joe Biden that China will not attack Taiwan in the coming years, The Independent reports.

According to the publication, citing a US official, Xi Jinping said during talks with Biden that China has no military plans for Taiwan in the coming years.

According to the American interlocutor, Xi Jinping said he hoped for a "peaceful reunification" of China with Taiwan. At the same time, the Chinese leader clarified the conditions under which force could be used. He emphasized that the fate of the island is the biggest threat to US-China relations.

Biden, for his part, noted that the United States supports peace and stability in the region. In his opinion, this can be achieved by maintaining the status quo and forcing China to respect the elections in Taiwan.
