Russia's FSB arrested Belarusian citizen suspected of blowing up trains on BAM

Russia's Federal Security Service announced the detention of a suspect in blowing up tanker trains on the Baikal-Amur Mainline. The detainee is a citizen of Belarus who lives in Lithuania. This was reported by Russian media with reference to a press release from the security agency.

"A terrorist act prepared by Ukraine's special services aimed at destroying critical transport and energy infrastructure has been revealed. A citizen of the Republic of Belarus born in 1971 was detained in Omsk region who blew up two railway trains with oil products on November 29 and 30, which were traveling along the Taishet-Tinda and Taishet-Neryungri routes on the Baikal-Amur Mainline in Buryatia," the release said.

The man allegedly already admitted during interrogation that he was acting under the control of Ukraine's special services.

The FSB said the suspect confessed that he acted on the instructions of his compatriot, who lives in Lithuania and works for the Ukrainian special services. He said that he had taken eight explosive devices from a hiding place, transported them to Buryatia by car, and installed them on the tanks of freight trains. As a result of the explosions, a fire broke out in the Severomuysky tunnel and on its bypass track, blocking traffic on the railroad.

The FSB published a video in which the man explains that he was offered to transport the parcel for money.

"I knew the man for several years, he inspired confidence. Yes, then questions arose... And he explained that these were magnetic mines to blow up a warehouse and stop traffic on the BAM," the man said.
