Officially: Putin will run for a fifth term

Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced that he will participate in the presidential elections in 2024. He made the announcement during an event in honor of the Day of Heroes of the Fatherland, according to Russian media.


The Russian presidential election will be held on March 17. The relevant resolution was adopted by the Federation Council on December 7. The Russian CEC decided that the elections will last three days: from March 15 to 17.


Putin was elected president of the Russian Federation in 2000, 2004, 2012 and 2018. Before the 2012 elections, the term of the presidential office was extended from four to six years.


After the adoption of amendments to the Russian Constitution in 2020, Putin was granted the right to run for president in the 2024 presidential elections.
