Borrell on security guarantees: It's time to direct all our capabilities to support Ukraine

On December 11, EU foreign ministers will discuss security guarantees for Ukraine. The options will be submitted to the summit of European leaders. This was stated by the head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell, Sky TG24 reports.

Borrell made the statement before a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council.

"Russia continues to attack Ukraine, but Russia's losses are growing: it is time to support Kyiv more, not less. Today we will discuss security guarantees for Ukraine, and ministers should give me guidance to come up with options at the leaders' summit," Borrell said.

The EU's top diplomat emphasized that it is important that military support for Ukraine continues at the European level, not just at the bilateral level. In addition, he said that "it is time to direct all our capabilities to support Ukraine" as Russia intensifies its attacks.

"The ministers will have to give me instructions to present a proposal to the European Council on security commitments, which are mainly aimed at increasing the capacity of structures and coordinating bilateral agreements between member states and Ukraine, as well as what we are doing at the level of the European Council of the Union," the diplomat explained.

As a reminder, the EU leaders' summit will take place on December 14-15. There, European leaders will decide on the prospects for the integration of Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia.
