Kyivstar has experienced a large-scale failure: Problems will be fixed within a few hours (UPDATED)

On the morning of December 12, a large-scale failure occurred in the network of Kyivstar mobile operator. Subscribers complain about the lack of communication and the Internet, and the company's website is down. In some regions, in addition to mobile communications, wired Internet is also down.

The company commented on the situation and said that a technical failure had occurred in the network, which may result in the unavailability of communication and Internet access services for some of its subscribers. They noted that specialists are already working to fix the problem.

"While the technical difficulties are being resolved, we recommend that subscribers use the national roaming service. We apologize to subscribers for the temporary difficulties and thank them for their understanding," the statement said.

Later, the Ministry of Digital Transformation reported that Kyivstar subscribers could not use national roaming due to a failure - the network cannot transfer information about its subscribers to the networks of other operators.

The ministry claims that after the current problem is solved, it will discuss with all mobile operators how to avoid similar situations in the future and protect users from unexpected communication problems.

The situation was commented on by Oleksandr Kubrakov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure. He said that Kyivstar subscribers would have their connection problems fixed within a few hours.

"The meeting on Kyivstar is over. I hope that everything will be restored in a few hours," Kubrakov said.

Kyivstar said its network was down due to a powerful hacker attack.

"On the morning of December 12, Kyivstar's communication network was the target of a powerful hacker attack that caused a technical failure that temporarily made communication and Internet access services unavailable," the company's press service said.

The operator asked law enforcement and relevant government agencies for help. They are currently working in the company's office (earlier the media reported that it was being searched).

Kyivstar also claims that the personal data of its subscribers has not been compromised.
