US Democrats have refused to accept House Speaker Mike Johnson's conditions for approving new funding for Ukraine. This was reported by The Hill.
Speaker of the US House of Representatives Mike Johnson said a few days ago that Republicans would not support any aid to Ukraine unless it included new border security regulations. His demands include the construction of a new wall on the border with Mexico, similar to the approach of former President Donald Trump.
Johnson expressed that "a border battle is coming."
Democrats in the House of Representatives, while supporting the allocation of new funds for border security, immediately rejected such harsh restrictions. Members of the Democratic Party emphasized that they would not support any package that included such immigration restrictions.
"It would be ridiculous. Unfortunately, if they (Republicans - ed.) did that, it would be to the detriment of Ukraine," said Mark Pocan, a member of the House of Representatives from the Democratic Party.
At the same time, according to The Hill, representatives of the Democratic Party warned that they would never support a package of measures for Ukraine that included a new wall on the border with Mexico.
"For me, and I think for most of us, it doesn't make sense," said House member Juan Vargas.
Another member of the House, Raul Grijalva, noted that the wall on the border was a political symbolism for Republicans and its construction was a waste of money.
