A new section of the tunnel will be built on the blue line of the Kyiv metro instead of repairing the old one

An emergency section of the tunnel between the Demiivska and Lybidska metro stations in Kyiv will be dismantled and a new one will be built. This was announced by Maksym Shkil, CEO of MS Capital holding, which includes Autostrada, the company that is carrying out the work.

"After conducting the necessary surveys and studies, it was decided to dismantle the emergency section of the tunnel (which is about 27 meters long) and build a new one in this place - a monolithic, open-cut rectangular section," he wrote.

Shkil reminded that train traffic on the section between these stations was suspended due to flooding and cracks in the tunnel lining blocks. There was a violation of the geometry of the structure, so there was a risk of collapse.

It is noted that in December, the existing tunnel structure was stabilized from the inside with the help of special metal scaffolding to prevent the tunnel from sinking anymore.

Currently, restoration work is underway both inside and outside the tunnel. After all the utilities have been relocated, development of the pit to dismantle the damaged ones will begin.

The owner of the company assures that the restoration of the distillation tunnel is scheduled to be completed this autumn.
