Moldova becomes a target of Russian interference as it moves toward Europe

Moldova is the target of Russian interference, which is intensifying as the country moves toward European integration. This was stated by Moldovan President Maia Sandu in Le Figaro.

She explained that the Chisinau government is particularly concerned about the increase in disinformation ahead of the presidential election and the referendum on EU membership scheduled for autumn.

The President also emphasized that the situation in unrecognized Transnistria is stable, despite the appeal of local "deputies" to Russia for help.

"This 'appeal' (from Transnistria) came at a time when the Tiraspol regime was simultaneously asking Russia, the European Union, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, and the United Nations for money, but not military support," she said.

Sandu also assures that since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, a significant number of people from this region have applied for Moldovan passports. According to her, this indicates that young people want to avoid being drafted into the Russian army.
