US House of Representatives will unblock aid to Ukraine, but with significant differences - Johnson

The US House of Representatives unblocks the bill on aid to Ukraine. However, the document will be significantly different from the $95 billion foreign aid package that the Senate approved last month. This was stated by US House of Representatives spokesman Mike Johnson in The Hill.

He told senators that the House would send the aid package to Ukraine to the Senate, but suggested making it a loan or credit program so that American taxpayers do not shell out tens of billions of dollars without any expectation of return, according to senators who participated in the discussion.

Johnson also wants to include in the bill something similar to the REPO for Ukrainians Act, sponsored by Representative Mike McCaul, which would authorize the confiscation of Russian sovereign assets and deposit the proceeds of the liquidated property into the Ukraine Support Fund.

Notably, Johnson did not say whether such a package of aid to Ukraine would include tough border security reforms, such as the "Stay in Mexico" language that has met with resistance from Senate Democrats.
