Polish farmers blocked two checkpoints on the border with Germany, causing large traffic jams

Polish farmers are blocking two border crossings with Germany, traffic across the border is seriously hampered. RMF24 wrote about this on March 18.

One of the crossings on the A2 highway in Świetko has been blocked by farmers since Sunday. The activists also blocked the crossing in Hubinek, where about 90 agricultural vehicles were parked. Only official vehicles, such as police, ambulances and border guards, are allowed to pass.

People traveling to Germany are being directed to the S3 highway and then to the Vilshyn crossing. However, a large traffic jam has formed there as well, stretching for 5 km.

Michał Kołodziejczak, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Development of Poland, said that no one from the ministry is going to meet with the farmers in Świetko.

In response, the farmers also stated that they did not want a meeting, claiming that they "have been there so many times, and it's always the same." They hope that a representative of the German government will come.

The blockade is scheduled to last until Wednesday evening, but it is possible that the protest will be extended.

The farmers said they are ready to hold the blockade until their demands are met. They are calling for changes in the requirements for them in accordance with the new EU environmental legislation, as well as regulation of the flow of products to the European market from Ukraine and other non-EU countries.
