Poland agrees with farmers on temporary ban on transit of agricultural products from Ukraine - media

The Polish authorities have signed an agreement with farmers on subsidies per ton of grain and the temporary closure of the border with Ukraine for the transit of certain agricultural products. This was reported by Polish Radio.

The agreement was signed by representatives of the protesting farmers, as well as by Minister of Agriculture Czesław Siekierski and Secretary of State Michał Kołodziejczak.

The agreement provides for the continuation of the embargo on agricultural products from Ukraine, which was introduced in mid-September last year. This applies to such goods as wheat, corn, wheat flour, rapeseed and sunflower.

In addition, the Minister of Agriculture will ask the Council of Ministers to stop the transit of these products through Polish territory from April 1 of this year.

The two sides also agreed on the need to develop detailed rules for agricultural trade between Poland and Ukraine. They emphasized that the difficult situation in the agricultural sector is the result of Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

Farmers' representatives in the agreement expressed support for the government's changes to the Green Deal, in particular, the replacement of mandatory plowing with a voluntary eco-scheme and simplification of other rules for farmers.
