Shmyhal: Ukraine does not need to mobilize 500,000 people, brigades are already staffed

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said in an interview with Estonian ERR that the mobilization will be "softer" because there is no longer a need to mobilize 500,000 people.

Journalists reminded Shmyhal that last December there were statements, including from President Volodymyr Zelensky, about the need to mobilize 500,000 people.

In response, the prime minister said that he and the head of state were in control of the situation: "The chief of the Armed Forces has been replaced, he has conducted an audit of the Defense Forces, and rotations on the front line have begun - for the first time in the years of a full-scale war."

"We understand that not so many people are needed now, so the mobilization will be much softer. I think this year we will fulfill all the necessary tasks to mobilize Ukrainians," noted Shmyhal.

According to him, the new brigades of the Defense Forces have already been staffed, and Ukraine is waiting for Western equipment and ammunition.

"We have new brigades - they are already staffed with people, but we are waiting for equipment, military equipment and ammunition from our partners. When all this arrives, the new brigades will be manned and we will significantly increase our combat power," the Prime Minister said.
