A serviceman of the State Protection Department, suspected of the intentional murder of a 16-year-old teenager at a funicular station in Kyiv, is in pre-trial detention. This was reported by the State Protection Department of Ukraine.

"We officially inform you that the suspect is in custody in a pre-trial detention center, the State Protection Department cooperates with the investigation as much as possible and in no way justifies the serviceman," the statement reads, asking the public and media representatives to "avoid spreading false and unverified" information.

At the same time, the agency expressed condolences to the family of the deceased.

"The loss of a child is an indescribable grief and irreparable loss," the State Protection Department said.

As a reminder, on April 7, a conflict arose between a man who serves as a driver in the State Protection Department and a minor at the station of the capital's funicular. After getting out of the car at the upper station, the law enforcement officer pushed the teenager. According to witnesses, he fell on the glass and died from his injuries without regaining consciousness.
