Media: Norway is preparing to transfer 22 F-16 fighters to Ukraine, US approves

Norway is preparing to transfer 22 F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine as part of the Fighter Coalition, 12 of which are already in a serviceable condition. The Norwegian portal Nettavisen learned this from its own sources.

According to Nettavisen, Norway has received permission from the United States to transfer 22 F-16 fighters to Ukraine, as well as engines, auxiliary materials, simulators, spare parts and other related equipment. This does not mean, however, that all of these 22 fighters are fully operational - some of them can be used for spare parts and repairs of other aircraft.

The Nettavisen article says that 12 Norwegian F-16s, which Norway planned to sell to the American company Draken International, may actually be airworthy - the corresponding contract was signed in December 2021.

"The sale agreement with Draken International does not seem to be implemented, and the planes, which were supposed to be used for training in the USA, will instead be used to protect Ukraine's airspace," the publication writes.

The publication does not specify a timeframe for when Ukraine might receive the Norwegian F-16s, but suggests that this will not happen before the NATO summit in Washington in July.
