Stoltenberg: NATO cannot close the sky over Ukraine or send troops to the country

NATO cannot close the sky over Ukraine or send its troops to prevent it from entering a war with Russia. This is how Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg commented on the information that Poland and the Baltic states may send troops to Ukraine.

“If we have NATO forces directly involved in the conflict, if they attack Russian targets, in the sky or on the ground in Ukraine, we will be in a situation where it will be very difficult to keep NATO out of the conflict. We should not have NATO troops on the ground or equipment in the skies of Ukraine,” Stoltenberg said at a session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

According to him, there are no plans to train the Ukrainian Armed Forces by NATO forces on the territory of Ukraine.

He also spoke again about the use of Western weapons for strikes on Russian territory.

“It's time to think about whether some existing restrictions should be lifted. We see that in the Kharkiv region, the front line and the border are located almost in the same place, and Ukraine cannot attack military facilities in Russia. This means that Ukrainians have their hands tied. They are being attacked from the territory of Russia, and they cannot respond because there are restrictions on their use of weapons,” the Secretary General said.
