Biden and Scholz discuss strengthening NATO's eastern flank in case of a Russian attack on Ukraine

U.S. President Joe Biden and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz discussed the Ukraine crisis and considered strengthening NATO's eastern flank in case Russia "invades" Ukraine, the White House reported.

"They reaffirmed their commitment to Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and stressed the importance of continued transatlantic coordination on diplomacy and deterrence measures as well as strengthening the eastern flank of NATO in the event of further Russian invasion of Ukraine," the report said.

It is noted that the two leaders also discussed conversations they had earlier had with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin and regarding "Russia's ongoing military build-up on the borders with Ukraine."
